Population-Native
Our dataset is built on West and Central African phenotypes, the most underrepresented cohort in existing SCD research globally. Every model, every threshold is calibrated here.
Research
Real-world, continuous biomarker data from sickle cell patients across Africa. Collected at the community level, not just at the hospital bed.

Built where 75% of the world's SCD patients live.
99% of SCD data comes from hospital visits. Our patients spend 99% of their lives outside hospitals. That's the gap we're closing.

The data advantage
Our dataset is built on West and Central African phenotypes, the most underrepresented cohort in existing SCD research globally. Every model, every threshold is calibrated here.
Not episodic hospital data. Continuous SpO₂, HRV, temperature, hydration, and activity, captured daily, at home, in rural and urban communities across the continent.
Wearable vitals + patient-reported outcomes + jaundice visual severity scores + voice symptom logs. No comparable multi-modal SCD dataset exists for Africa.
Crisis events, prodromal patterns, post-crisis recovery, all timestamped and linked to individual patient histories.
Research platform
Aggregate anonymised cohort data for drug efficacy studies, hydroxyurea adherence outcomes, VOC frequency over time, and mortality proxies.
Access to a verified, consented SCD patient network across Africa. Filter by genotype (HbSS, HbSC, HbSβ-thalassemia), age, crisis frequency, and medication history.
Our wearable + app infrastructure is the trial infrastructure, pharma companies don't need to build their own. Plug-and-play remote monitoring for SCD interventional trials.
Validate new crisis-prediction biomarkers against our continuous longitudinal dataset. Particularly valuable for pipeline drugs targeting vaso-occlusive crises.

Collaborations
CellGuard partners with universities, teaching hospitals, and clinical teams across Africa to produce evidence that reflects how sickle cell is actually lived, outside the ward, in real communities.
Current collaboration
Nile University of Nigeria
Collaborative research on continuous wearable biomarkers and crisis-risk prediction.
Partnership scope
For pharma & biotech
CellGuard operates a continuous wearable monitoring network for SCD patients across Africa. If your pipeline includes VOC prophylaxis, hemolytic agents, or pain management therapies, your clinical trial needs this infrastructure.
Data ethics & privacy
Full alignment with Nigeria Data Protection Regulation and applicable African data protection frameworks.
Per-study consent, patients choose exactly what they share and can withdraw at any time.
Structured de-identification before any research use. Individual patients are never exposed in outputs.
No raw patient data leaves Africa without aggregation. Research datasets are built for purpose, not export.
Every study runs through institutional ethics review, partner HRECs and independent boards as required.
Community science
Every CellGuard user who opts into research is contributing to the largest African SCD dataset ever built. You're not just managing your health, you're advancing the science for every warrior who comes after you.
